The problems of waste management and especially plastic waste, which takes hundreds of years to biodegrade, is one of the biggest challenges of our times and now affects the whole living population of the planet. For example, we dump more than 10 million tons of plastic waste into our oceans each year, with distastrous consequences to marine life and ecosystems!

Greenheart Ibiza has for many years been working within a campaign called

'Ibiza Limpia', whose mission is to keep Ibiza’s beaches, coastal areas, countryside and rural roads in a clean and tidy state for everyone to enjoy and to ensure ongoing care for the beautiful nature of the Islands.

By promoting efficient and smart waste management, we intend to help diminish the amount of waste generated, as well as to engage the whole population of the Balearic islands in the process of both cleaning up what is already polluting our natural spaces, plus drastically reducing the amount of waste generated, while supporting government recycling projects.

Also, as a well known and very popular tourist destination, we need to demonstrate how we can correctly manage our waste problems, making a showcase for other developing tourist destinations to follow.

What can you do?

  • Obviously, the first step is to reduce the amount of unnecessary packaging that is acquired when buying products, as well as correctly separate the garbage, ready for recycling. Apart from not making a mess, if everyone picked up just one piece of rubbish while walking or enjoying the beach, the problem could be solved very quickly and without the need to invest millions of euros of public money in the process.

  • Participate in the numerous initiatives for beach cleaning, road cleaning and maintenance of our natural spaces, such as Yolojunto Ibiza, La Bella Verde and One Planet One Life that continuously work to solve current and future waste problems.

  • Use the Green Line (the European APP), to notify the authorities of incidents on public roads and spaces, such as the removal of abandoned vehicles and building waste etc, that you cannot remove with your own means.
